What's the deal with this image? A blurb status that this image is
updated minutely from a Cennectix video camera, but not a single bit
has changed in this image in hours! Could you add a checkbox that
indicates when the last image was loaded, so users will know if the
camera is turned on?

The whole thing looks like a hoax so far.

Hello Tom,

We've been watching your toilet now for about a week, and
nothing has changed. We suspect it's a static image, and
a hoax. If not, how about putting the lid down once in
awhile, or moving whatever it is on top of the tank, so
we know it's the real thing?

Is this $99 camera for reals? Where can I get more info?

Thx!

Gary

I'm still amused at your online toilet, a true advance in the stupid
online devices category. Any chance you could put a bright, cheap LED
clock on top of the toilet so we all know what time it is there?

Santa Fe has become more amusing now that I've found some pretentious
fags to hang out with.

I am beginning to suppect that one of the following
is true:

1)	The toilet in is a locked room and is only used
on used by invisible people who only go to the
	bathroom to comb their hair

2)	The whole thing is a sham, you just took one
picture of the toilet, and it never updates.

And I have been wondering what in the hell is that on the
toilet? Is that a empty container of those marshmallow

I was thinking of setting up a "poll per minute" of the ToiletCam
and compiling a collection of the most exciting pictures from your
WWW server. This would be a fine canditate for Useless WWW pages.

I think your ToiletCam is brilliant - it's such a hilarious idea
and appeals to the voyeur in me! If you make a time for me to peek,
you could wave hello to me! :)

a change yet. You could at least leave the light on; it's damn dark in there.

Hello...
Is your shit-cam working? I took two images from it, each several
minutes apart and did a binary file compare and they turned up exactly the
same. It is conseivable that your camera could take two exact images right
after another, but highly unlikey. If it is working, I suggest you put a
clock or something to prove that it is live video. Also, try to leave a
turd floating in the commode for us net-surfers to admire when there is
nobody using the facilities.

- Steve

P.S. What hardware are you using to capture the images? I want to do a
similar thing next year when I live in an apartment with ethernet.

Hey, could you put a clock or something on your toilet so we can
see something change? Maybe one of those old big-number LED types.

If you don't have a spare clock, how about a TV? Tune it to the
educational channel or something.

Or how about a lava-lamp? Maybe a fishtank with a big, visible fish?

I'm interested in how you have your camera rigged up. I've been thinking of
getting one and was concerned that the software it came with would not allow
it to be setup for Web use. Do you have yours connected to a Mac? Are you
using homebrew software?

I'd appreciate any information you can give me.

Tom Jennings,

Some of us out here are beginning to doubt the authenticity of
your toilet-cam, we believe you should add a last-flushed sensor
and stat to the potty page to lend some credibility to what
appears to be a *static pix*. Possibly a tank temp/level reading?
You have Paul's hottub to compete with, and he's miles ahead
in technology.

Do you keep stats on how many visits this page gets? I would guess
it has many customers, and as you know, you will lose your
customers if you don't keep them happy!

I've seen your toilet-page, and I wonder, where I can find
"one of these little $99 Connectix video camera"?
What else, then this camera do I need, to get the pics in my computer?
Do I need a frame grabber, or can I connect this camera on e.g. a serial
port? What is the cheapest (not the easiest) way?

Any help appreciated ...

Thnx in advance,

Markus

Hi. A friend sent me your http and I though it was a really cool gag.
Even if it wasn't real the idea was fun. I have been checking into it
ocasionally mostly to show people what it is, but ocasionally to see if this
thing is real. My curiosity just got the best of me and I had to mail you
and ask if this thing is real and if it is does anyone there mind being
peeked at? Something else occurred to me: this might be an experiment to see
how many voyeours were out there. Anyways, it is a cool gag, but is it real?

Thanks.

Usenet groups about your toilet cam page.

Most people think it is just a photo that never changes. Others have been posting
status updates of it's status. So far, no one has seen anything but a toilet in a
dark room.

Please, do something so we have something to talk about. Like turn the lights on
and off, lower and raise the seat, float a rubber duck in the bowl, or TAKE A SHIT
ONCE IN A WHILE!

Tom,

Ha! The gif of the toilet hasn't changed in DAYS! Not that I want to catch
anyone, of course, I just want to get a gif of a toilet in a room WITH THE
LIGHTS ON for an icon(*). If you have a gif of the magic bowl with the lights
on, please send it to me (uuencoded, MIME, or NeXTmail are fine). If you
weren't aware of this tragic problem, well, then, now you are.

(*) this bit is included to give you a chuckle and maybe push you over the
edge into actually sending the gif to me. I've got a computer and work and
another one at home. Both running NeXTSTEP. I got a 500 meg portable SCSI
disk from a friend of mine. Now, the machine at work is named "putty," due to
its generally PC-like putty color. There's really only one name that a
portable disk attached to such a machine could have: Port-o-Putty. And of
course I need an icon for it, and this was my first pick!

Thanks,
Corby

You don't know me, butttttt....

Your toilet page has given me something besides work to do
at work. But I've never actually seen anyone in there. The question
that's been on everyone's mind is- how many people (male/female)
use the toilet and what is the average visitation in one day? Also,
it would be pretty interesting to put the camera _inside_the toilet
looking _up_ (Warholesque). Since you seem to be a net veteran
and I am just starting my home page, is there any Fugazi web pages
or info out there? They are my favorite all time band.

You're the coolest!

Carol.

Sirs:

We here at the have been
carefully examining your alleged periodic updating toilet photo. By
utilizing sophisticated image prcessing techniques, our unlimited computing
resources, the computing resources of the NSA, and my mother's CoCo, we
have come to the stunning conclusion that this picture never changes.

Three logical explanations appear to be possible, a) Scam, b)
Broken and public is not notified, or c) you have purchaced the world's
most linear Connectix Camera and the world's most linear lightbulb. Since
this is the "Internet" we are talking about, both (a) and (b) seem highly
unlikely. Therefore, after weeks of painstaking analysis, we have decided
to back (c) as the most likely cause.

Congratulations on your purchase. Please keep up the good work. We
are all counting on you.

Absolutely hilarious idea. I have to admit, though, I'm a little doubtful
that its legit... I mean I've d/led the picture at least 20 times and
not seen any "action". How about moving whatever that is on the tank
so that we can at least see *something*.

Hi there!

I thought it was a pretty cool idea to have your toilet broadcast over the net,
but it always seems to look exactly the same...! Is it possible you're
only posting a single picture of a vacant toilet?

If it gets occasionally updated, is there any chance you might be willing
to post the date and time the picture was taken along with the image
itself? That would be really cool....

Thanks!!!

Rob

I took a look at both the TWO YEAR OLD picture and the toilet-cam. I am sad
to say, I didn't get a chance to catch anyone on the lue.

I noticed, in the two-year-old picture, that there is a rather large antenna
attached to the rear of the car. By any chance, is your Dad a HAM Radio
Operator?

I ask because I am. VE3QED in the flesh!

Har! That's rad (especially from life-is-art point of view)! I admire you
folks for doing it, and for anybody (as a semi-for-real-commercial-entity)
for putting on the net.

It makes me chortle to think (as a fellow SF resident especially) that some
inflexible person(s) with no humor (somewhere in Texas perhaps) will
actually freak out and write letters to their Senator about it, etc.

Well, let's make sure we write too!

Anywho, I was admiring the technology of the whole thing, and was wondering
if you could do me two favors:
        1) Please forward this to the creator(s) of said art piece, they
           deserve admiration!
        2) Please forward this to someone techo-knowledgable that would be
able to send me the ingredients (I want to think of something
similar and fun) to the camera/sampler/uploading-device-like-how-
           do-ya-get-the-bytes-into-a-file-like-oh-muh-god gizmo/software,

Thanks for any time you give this!

Tom
how about doing something different at night with the toilet? Leave the lid
down or put something on top of the cistern? I take a peek after hours your
time (12 or 14 hours time difference here) and your dunny always looks the
same (I can just make it out in the dark). Gimmee a break!!!! :-)

PS I like your home page. The KKKK thread to Snake Oil is one of my
favourites. The LPG conversion info is cool too. LPG conversion is all the
rage here in Australia but professional conversions cost about $1500. The
company I work for only has LPG vehicles in its fleet - an environmental
committment of sorts but I think that the cheaper running costs clinched it.

Hi there,

I was just surfing the net and found your unusual page (toiletcam).

I will be in the US in may and will be doing a fair bit of travelling. I
am interested in finding out where this camera is so I could use it to
send a "message" home to Australia (If the WPS is on my travel path).

Could you please let me know if this is possible.

Yours Sincerely
Anthony G. Place

Just great!

I have worked two whole weeks at my homepage, browsing the web for
some absolutely great links, and what do you get?

THEY TAKE OF THEIR GOOD STUFF OFF THE WEB...

Please put your toilet back on, or send me the URL, so i can keep my
link and don't have to rebuild my home...

Greetings! I'm the editor of the CyberSurfer magazine (published by Starlog)
and we have selected your site as one of the 100 best (well not exactly) pages
on the WWW. Your exact ranking has not been determined, but you will be in the
category titled Complete Wastes of Time.

Let me say that ToiletCam and Foam Bath Fish time are two of the greatest
wastes of time and bandwidth that the web has ever seen. As a matter of fact
the two of your homepages are neck in neck for the biggest wastes of time on
the internet.

Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate the both of you on a most impressive
pages. We would be thrilled if you could give us a couple of quotes for the
magazine.

Some standard questions:

Why did you create the page?
Any future plans for the homepage?
Any truth to the rumors that the two of you will be collaborating on something
even more wasteful?

Peace,

Jason McCabe Calacanis
